Tail length: can we please use the same units?
So far I've had millimetres, inches, a fist, and 'a decent amount'. I'll ask the instructor. Please stop sending photographs of your hands.
Before the comments: actual guidance
This discussion is not instruction. Refer to the sources and a qualified instructor for the exact technique.

Mine was for scale.
Your hand was closer to the camera than the rope.
Still a hand.
This is exactly why hands are not units.
Mine is unusually consistent, actually.
Nobody asked for a calibration certificate for your fist, Rupert.
Can I still send mine?
No.
Already sent it.
Blocked.
Chris is asking the instructor, which is the sensible answer. The rest of you can stop photographing your hands now.
We use spans sometimes.
For bouldering grades?
No, just generally.
I have made a conversion table.
Of course you have.
I preferred not knowing.
